One life, live it well!
A couple of weeks back I was invited to the launch of Holmes Place cafe, they celebrated their new menu with brunch. I had my doubts as you can imagine, Holmes Place are renown for their state of the art gym facilities in Athens. What is the foodie going to do at the gym?
Reservations set aside, I went to join them. I was certainly not disappointed, I had a very warm welcome by the team with super refreshing kiwi, pear, cucumber and fennel smoothie to boost my energy. It is the kind of smoothie that gives you a kick to go exploring, there were a lot of interesting dishes to try out.
The chef has done wonders putting together very tasty and nutritious choices on the menu. If healthy for you is synonymous to leafy greens and small quantities, you will reconsider. There is a selection of fresh soups and tortilla wraps, salmon and avocado became instantly a favourite. Exactly what you need when you are after a quick lunch to boost your energy during the day.
There are, of course, salads: a very healthy version of coleslaw with spicy radish and refreshing dill, made lighter with creamy Greek yoghurt; the wild rice & quinoa salad with raisins and pine nuts will definitely send you to the salad bar for seconds. Of course, a scrumptious baby potato salad, with a very Greek tag, topped with thin slivers of apaki, the traditional Cretan ham. Ideal suggestions for anyone looking to satisfy a hungry tummy either as it gets out of the gym or not. Holmes Place cafe is not exclusive to members, you can pop in and enjoy a light lunch or coffee at your leisure.
And did I mention there is dessert? The traditional semolina halva is flavoured with orange and playful little goji berries.
What I loved the most? The versatility and quality of materials. Whilst you can choose from their own salad suggestions, you can pick and mix your own salad ingredients. The guys will make your salad just as you like it.
I left this lunch with a very happy tummy myself, a wonderful Holmes Place coffee mug, which proved to be just my size and their moto ringing sweetest than ever: one life, live it well!
Holmes Place Cafe can be found in central Athens, Marousi and Glyfada and it is open for members and non-members, stay in or take away. Find more about Holmes Place here.

The salad with ham looks really good. Is that a traditional Greek salad or has the chef put together a new take on more traditional items?
It looked good and tasted good too!The chef has brought in traditional Greek ingredients and made some really balanced choices. The traditional potato salad we normally do, is very simple: boiled potatoes with capers and onions and a very simple olive oil dressing or we go mental on with mayo and eggs. Very healthy choices indeed 😉
