A burger is not a Greek burger unless it is naked, aka mpiftékia. These wonderful meat patties always got in the oven by themselves or often with some oven baked potatoes. A wholesome meal for a family or a feast with friends. No BBQ required obviously, you can just slip them in the oven.
Every family has its own recipe for mpiftékia and I dare say it’s one of the Sunday favourites along with the roasts. If you are a bit careful with that wasteline, you can enjoy a burger ‘naked’ with salad.
But here we have crash new potatoes! I advise you to double the portions of the tatties, these golden little nuggets are simply delicious. Yes, you will be going back for second helpings.
Feta Burgers with crash new potatoes
- 800 gr beef mince
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 small tomato grated
- 2 tbspn olive oil
- 100 gr feta
- 1 egg
- 3 tbspn breadcrumbs
- 6-7 sprigs of fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 500 gr baby potatoes
- Olive oil
- salt & pepper to taste
Crash new potatoes
- For the crash baby potatoes, parboil in salted water for 10 minutes. Drain and once in room temperature crash down with the palm of your hand and transfer them on a large baking tray that can accommodate both potatoes and burgers..
Feta stuffed burgers
- In a large bowl place the mince meat and add in all the rest of the ingredients except for the feta.
- Once the mince meat in well mixed with the herbs take some of the mixture, open it up in the palm of your hand, place some feta cheese and fold in the edges of the patty to cover.
- Set aside and continue with the rest of the mixture.
- Place in a well preheated oven at 180C and bake for 30-35 minutes.
