Eat like a Greek

The project

How often do you eat home-cooked food when you’re travelling abroad? If the answer is “not very often”, I’m about to change this.  Because in Greece we LOVE our souvlakia but we mostly care about home-cooked food. And I know exactly where you can find it in Athens so that you too can Eat Like A Greek!

If you are a foodie, it means you already have great expectations from local food at your destination. In Athens, there are of course the gorgeous sandy beaches, the blue waters and the sun loungers. Or the world-famous museums filled with classical and ancient beauty. But what about good food? The Greek diet is a typical combination of fresh, fresh and fresh: fresh vegetables, fresh meat and fish, ripe summer fruits and gorgeous fresh desserts that leave you wanting more. I know it’s difficult to resist the pulling power of the famous “souvlaki” (even our street is fresh!)…but what about sitting around the table for a wholesome meal like it’s Sunday?  How about slow roasted meat with vegetables or a home-cooked casserole? Are you ready for some serious lip smacking?

In August 2014 I created the blog Eating Yourself Greek. Since then I have been writing about all those wonderful recipes that always gave me a big appetite for cooking. My greatest inspiration has been my grandma’s cooking; the simplicity of the recipes, the intensity of the flavours and her long experience to cook simply delicious food only with what’s in season. Greek food has always been about local, seasonal ingredients. We respect what the seasons bring to our table, we love fresh produce markets and God are we picky! This is what Eat Like a Greek is all about.

I joined forces with Artemis from Wonderfoodland, a great chef and food blogger extra-ordinaire. Together we decided to create a very unique experience for the visitors who come to our city: the Eat like a Greek project.

What is Eat like a Greek? It’s a simple idea: you join us for a wonderful home cooked meal and we will cook for you a dish to remember! In our cosy dining room, you will start with freshly prepared Greek mezze while building an appetite for a delicious main course and finish it off with a delicious dessert. We source our products from small local producers; just like grandma used to do every day. So you can be certain that you only eat food like grandma’s!
