A lavish vegetable soup

Winter soups tend to give me this fuzzy feeling, similar to the one you get from gazing at the lights of a Christmas tree. No matter how tasty a soup can be though, I could never consider it a main dish. Soups for me always falls under starters or under the light meal league. Stuffed quinces is a recipe walking a fine line between celebratory cooking and obscure medieval grandeur. Quinces, a somewhat awkward fruit, seem to be enjoying a timid comeback on food bloggers’ social media feeds and to be honest I am excited. Cooking with quinces will make you squeal with joy if you are into sweet-n-sour dishes. Stuffed quinces have a unique, elegant taste, certainly fit for a celebration. Continue reading

I am back in Athens! It’s been a wonderful break. So many strolls, so many people to see, so little time to do everything. Of course I had a good break from cooking, too. I returned to an empty fridge and I was greeted by a lonely beer, it was high time for quick and dirty recipes. Foggy London always brings back good memories. This is a tasty one that I often cooked after work: my pumpkin and sage pasta. Given the season, you can hardly resist. Continue reading

Instead of walks to the park, we stroll the city center in much more bearable temperatures and we can still head to the beach over the weekend. The transition is made with vegetables! I am cooking a favourite bake with aubergines (yes, again) and freshly arrived pumpkin. Bites of summer, bites of autumn. Continue reading

Autumn is here, they say, but in Athens it still feels like summer. Most of us are back into schedule, holidays seems like a long gone dream. But hey, there are aubergines, last of their season and they taste like summer! Especially when baked with tomatoes and topped off with feta cheese.

Do you know what siglino is? We are entering Greek charcuteries territory. There is nothing better than the comforting bite of a soft bun that envelops a little tower of yumminess. Burgers are our Sunday bbq treat and guilty take-away pleasure. We almost always associate them with juicy beef patties or coated chicken breasts, crunchy lettuce leaves and spicy condiments. It’s time to take burgers to the next level, have an aubergine burger.
